I cheer my brothers and sisters on when they allow themselves to preach butt naked for His glory, but I fear that for myself. Pray for me as I step forward in faith to "preach" once again butt naked.
Kathynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4728021425416414105.post-50953803912349658672014-08-06T11:33:25.179-07:002014-08-06T11:33:25.179-07:00Great word, thanks for always being willing to sti...Great word, thanks for always being willing to stir up so we can rise up!! As an act of devotion to God, could they do it? Or would they not be able to sacrifice the sacred cow that preaching has become.

What if church truly became a place of community, without the worn out, going-through-the-motions schedules of worship, tithe, and a sermon? All of these involve very little if any participation by congregants to engage with their beliefs and the Bible in a community-type setting.

I would love to see churches put seeking God first. Sorry, but today's church worship does not foster true worship, not the type you mention here in your article. If we truly sought God and He spoke to us individually what a true impact that would have upon people's lives like it did on yours Shah. Your experience happened more than 20 years ago and you still are impacted by it. What would the church be like if that happened to more people.

The mind numbing routine of modern-day churches doesn't leave room for these types of encounters.

-- No longer a church attenderNo longer a church attendernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4728021425416414105.post-2267611812203876312014-07-23T12:58:27.845-07:002014-07-23T12:58:27.845-07:00John, what an outstanding testimony to loving your...John, what an outstanding testimony to loving your neighbors the Jesus way.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04401879806360475927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4728021425416414105.post-58524911809556596002014-07-23T12:57:07.649-07:002014-07-23T12:57:07.649-07:00Dennis, Dennis, Thanks for your input.

But if we judge them for not we judge ourselves. I know there are times I denied when I should have acknowledged.

Also conservative people are not born that way. After a few years in the system anything not authorized is punished. So they play it safe. Only to be judged by charismatics.

I had a guy rag on western wedding s one time as boring. I could not make them quiet down, or shut up, or be nice.
Then GOD put it upon my heart that instead of cursing them every time I glanced up at the ceiling at some new incursion, I must PRAY FOR GOD TO BLESS THEM sincerely, and from my heart.
Hard at first, it became easier, and I was able to pray for God to bless them every time they crossed my mind, and I more or less forgot about their rudeness.
Later, God impressed me to start praying that this rude young couple would have a baby.
Then I heard they were expecting a baby.
Then I started to pray for a happy healthy baby.
The happy, healthy, bouncing baby boy was safely born.
(We were still not talking).
Ironically, the baby was so sensitive to noise that the couple could not play the stereo, the radio, or the TV, and the wife (who had been deserted by her boyfriend) had to sleep on the sofa, because her snoring would wake the baby. And if the baby were awakened he would bawl loudly for 45 minutes, and would not be comforted.
Finally, she moved back with her parents so that her Mother would give free daycare while she worked.
Then, a tiny Christian (Indonesian) couple moved in upstairs. I never heard so much as a footfall upon the carpet from my new neighbors. It was a miracle. It was GOD.
It also taught me a new way to pray.

A friend asked me to pray that their stinky, awful neighbor would move. And I said, "You must forgive him, and pray from your heart that GOD will bless him." My dear Christian friend replied, "I will never forgive him." And I said, "Then I cannot pray, and you are stuck with him forever." That must be at least 10 years ago, and the bad neighbor is still in that house.

As Jesus asked, "Who then was neighbor to the man?" and the answer, "The Good Samaritan who took pity on him."

Big Hug.
J.Johnnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4728021425416414105.post-30006351275478161912014-07-23T12:06:10.456-07:002014-07-23T12:06:10.456-07:00Hi Shah. We do that a lot with family and friends, and try to include new folks already; but we don't do it as much as we could.

I watch as our once packed sanctuary is now only a third full at the early service. The following service is about three quarters full; but we used to have three full services just 10 years ago! Most are folks in their 70's and above. We do have a Spanish service, but I don't even know if it is part of our church or if they are just using our building. I loved your ideas and hope we can include them in our future plans. You are full of ideas, Shah, and I am learning from you and Becky and Sandy.

Thank you for all of your great emails and for sharing the picture of you and your family (in an earlier email)! You're bring up a very old question of w...Dan,

You're bring up a very old question of what the Christians' responsibilities are in the face of persecution. Many Christians believe the way you do, but I think differently. Maybe it's because I was raised under a system that didn't offer the freedom and rights that this nation offers her citizens. I'm also very concerned about the future of the church in this country.

I'm reminded of two things,

A. The Apostle Paul using his rights as a Roman demanding to take his case to the Caesar. He could have given up and let the Jews deal with him as they saw fit, but he didn't do so. He exercised his rights. Something that we can and should do as Americans.

B. Do you remember what Pastor Martin Niemoller (1892–1984) said about the cowardice of German inteletualls following the Nazis' rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

As followers of Jesus Christ, I believe, we are God's instruments of justice and have a duty to speak out against injustice. Because if we don't, no one else will do it for us. However, in this instance I disagree with your analysis. I do not think acting like the world is profitable to the Christian community.Christ came to bring peace to us,and He is well able to perform His will. Our prayers, voicing our opinions, solidarity in the face of Satan's opposing forces, etc., are all scriptural. Just as a child is birthed in a distressful time for the mother, much of God's work is done in much suffering. While I don't know why some suffer while others of us go peacefully through life, I do know God knows, He understands, and He does not need my interference unless He speaks to me or impels me. I don't condemn anyone for marching if they feel so impelled, since I haven't heard the Lord one way or the other on them. I just believe we often get ahead of God if we go hairing off on our own.
Dannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4728021425416414105.post-24178873808687177542014-02-18T14:45:33.644-08:002014-02-18T14:45:33.644-08:00Shah,
